3:30 am, we are up and getting ready to get going. We are going to the Hoover Dam today, hopefully watch the sunrise there and then continue over to the Grand Canyon before the sun gets too high in the sky.
Everything started out ok, but the first long hill we had Flyer was running hot. The sun wasn’t up yet and the temp was only in the 70s, we should be running ok. We stopped and the cooling took a lot longer than normal.
We moved forward to the Hoover Dam and when we saw the downhill that we’d wind down and then need to return up we decided this was not going to work. Flyer was again hot so we stopped to let her cool.
We watched the sunrise over Lake Meade.
At 6am we decided to look for a mechanic. It’s Sunday so that added a bit of a challenge. Being so close to Vegas there was an option for a mobile mechanic who said he could be to us by 9-9:30. Well, long story short that guy was a scam and strung us along until 12:30. Then an hour after arriving told us it would be $900-$1500! Ummm, nope. We’ll find someone else.
Luckily there was a hotel right across the street on the desolate part of highway. So by the time the mechanic scammer arrived we had actually rented a hotel room because it was hot, even in the AC, for Oscar and the kids.
Our friends we were visiting from Vegas came up with two cars and carted us over to the Hoover Dam as it was now too late in the day to find a mechanic today and it is too hot to drive Flyer @ 109F.
You can drive over the Hoover Dam and then back again. This is the actual bridge you cross now. We will cross this tomorrow when Flyer is fixed.
We enjoyed dinner with our friends before saying goodbye, again.
Then let the kids swim in the pool, where they made a few friends.
And headed to bed early. In the morning we have a mechanic back in Vegas who will look at Flyer.
