Our first night in Flyer was uneventful and soso on the comfort scale for the adults. The kids said it was great! Woke up to pouring rain drumming on the roof. It’s a good thing we were going to Niagara Falls today, we were going to get wet anyways… The kids must have really been tired because the first one didn’t stumble out of their room until a tad after 8.
As I went to wash dishes I realized the control panel was off and the water and lights weren’t working. We checked the breakers and everything appeared to be on but for some reason those items had no power. With this and the issues with the generator we are really thinking there is another battery somewhere that we just can’t find. Last night when we were parked and the generator was not on everything was operational so we were running off a battery of some sort and this am everything is off but the Flyer started right away and the lights kicked on but soon went out. We jumped the generator and after a few minutes everything came on. Weird, there HAS got to be a battery somewhere….Oh, battery, where are you? Why do you have to be so hard to find?
After a while the rain let up and we walked over to Wal-Mart and picked up some groceries then cooked our first breakfast.
and then headed out on what should have been a 10 minute drive. Well, the address we received put us in the “Las Vegas” section of Niagara, not at all where we wanted to be. Skyscrapers and casinos weren’t at all what we had in mind for Niagara Falls! We got a new address, entered it into the GPS and soon we were coming around the block, right back where we had been. We get lots of looks as we drive by because we are kind of a unique ride. After five more times around the same block we were really getting some long stares. I thought about pulling the shades. We finally figure out where the state park part was and we made our way there and had a little lunch before exploring the falls. (man, I feel like every 20 minutes I’m making a meal of some type! Oh, and dishes…)
The weather had cleared up some but was still raining lightly when we headed to the rim.
Maybe the early season, mid week visit or the weather made for very few others in the area and after walking the path by the rim we were able to walk right onto the elevator for the Cave in the Winds walking tour. Man, did we get soaked!
The kids especially got wet because they really enjoyed the “Hurricane Deck” where the water comes onto you after the fall crashes into some rocks just above.
Phrase of the day from Carboy, “this day is so awesome!”
By time we walked out of the falls the rain had stopped but it didn’t matter too much as we were already plenty wet. We made a quick trip to the gift shop for the kids to spend their daily allowance. It is a good thing we are now on our way to PA, where we’ll stay with my brother and his family for a few nights and we can wash our wet clothes and try to dry out rain coats that got wet INSIDE.
Arrived to my brothers at 8:15pm and our kids and theirs (4, 6, 8, 9, 10) all stayed up until 12:30! That could be a record. They will remember this! Their 13 year old, however fell asleep. Teenagers.
